Healthy Doughnuts
Healthy doughnuts? There is no such thing. Let me introduce you to these gorgeous creations, where we replaced the dough with apple slices and the sugary icing with something a little healthier, and a lot tastier!
These little beauties take about 2 minutes to make, and will definitely be rewarded with 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' when presented to family/friends. All you need is an apple, peanut butter or yoghurt and a whole lot of imagination. The below healthy 'doughnuts' are just my own quick ideas, please feel free to make any variation on them.
The perfect spring snack, these are sure to satisfy even the sweetest of sugar cravings. With their healthy apple base and fruit & nut toppings, you'll find the fussiest eaters want more. Have fun with these - get the kids, hubby or siblings involved with these ones. For the base, all you need to do is slice the apply thinly and cut out the core.
The peanut butter superfoods doughnut is so simple, and so delicious. Simply spread your favourite peanut butter (I use Pb2 from iherb) and sprinkle your chosen superfoods. These can be goji berries, chia seeds, nuts - there's an endless selection. For this doughnut I used the Isowhey superfood sprinkle.
This yoghurt & fruit doughnut was easily my favourite. The combination of cold, greek yoghurt went perfectly with fresh strawberries. Simply spread with greek yoghurt (I use Chobani 0% greek yoghurt) and top with fresh strawberries and flaked coconut pieces.
My little sister has an insane sweet tooth, and she picked this doughnut up genuinely thinking it was a doughnut. The look on her face was priceless, but to my surprise she ate all of it. She declared it to be her new favourite snack, so I've named this 'Bronte's Banana Doughnut' in her honour. Spread your favourite peanut butter or nut butter spread, and top with fresh banana and chia seeds.
Visually, this doughnut was my favourite. The vibrant purple acai really adds to the colour and the flavour! Cover your apple slice in greek yoghurt, sprinkle your favourite healthy powder (I used acai powder from iherb) and top with slivered almonds or any nut of your choice.
