REVIEW: The most luxurious hotel in Copenhagen - the Hotel D'Angleterre.
When you picture luxury, what does it conjure in your mind? Perhaps it’s a breakfast buffet so large you wouldn’t know where to start. Maybe it’s a kind bed that you could fit 5 people in comfortably. Or possibly it’s a hotel suite that is bigger than your entire apartment, just for two people.
The D’Angleterre in Copenhagen is all of that, but so much more. With a fantastic location on Kongens Nytorv (the main public square in Copenhagen), the hotel is home to the Michelin-starred restaurant, Marchal, as well as a day spa with a heated indoor pool (only one in central Copenhagen), sauna and spa.
You’re welcomed into the D’Angelettere by a beaming doorman, dressed to the nines not only in outfit but the biggest smile you’ve seen. As you walk into the elegant lobby, the towering floral arrangements immediately remind you you’re in one of the most luxurious hotels in not only Denmark, but the world.
From the second you step through the doors, it’s a moment that will leave you speechless. The high ceilings and wondrously spacious suite offers the utmost luxury, and you’ll feel like you’re the very first person to step through. Waiting on the coffee table was a bottle of champagne, divine food spread and a handwritten note with chocolates from the hotel manager.
The plush carpet and underfloor bathroom heating means you don’t need to worry about shoes, but if you’d prefer to wear them there’s always the slippers and lush bathrobe supplied to change into. The lounge room has a large writing desk, velvet chair and the most comfortable lounge to sink into, as well as an enormous flat screen tv with movies galore.
There’s also a wide assortment of teas and Nespresso machine, which means you don’t need to leave the comfort of your room for a decent coffee. The walk in wardrobe is lined with loads of storage for those with luggage, as well as the usual amenities.
Leading into the bedroom is the most opulent bed you’ve ever seen, and it’s more comfortable than any I’ve slept in. The bathroom is double the size of most, with a massive walk-in shower and deep soaking tub for the ultimate relaxation. There’s also another flat screen TV that you can watch from bed, as well as an additional powder room with another toilet for those who like to get ready separately.
The room opens up onto a magnificent balcony that offers views of the public square and the famous Nyhevan houses. Sit down and watch the world go past as you take in all that Copenhagen has to offer with the D’Angleterre.
If you can afford a little extravagance on your trip, it’s the D’Angleterre that should be on your bucket list. Completely refurbished in 2013 (and closed for two years during the refurbishment), every small detail that contributes to luxury has been included. From the friendly concierge who helped to plan our daytrip, to the lovely Andre behind the desk who carefully explained the history of the D’Angleterre and the 2013 refurbishment in great detail, there is no stone left unturned.
Whenever you’re in Copenhagen and looking for a splurge, go and visit the most luxurious hotel there is – the D’Angleterre.
