Brand Review: HYLAMIDE by Deciem: Abnormal Beauty Company

Brand Review: HYLAMIDE by Deciem: Abnormal Beauty Company

If you haven’t heard of DECIEM, it’s time to check them out. According to their website, they’re: “A humble and happy umbrella of good beauty brands. We’re founded on the principle of doing everything that others don’t do and we are changing the world of beauty based on this principle.”

One of their umbrella brands is Hylamide, which is comprised of the CORE Series, BOOSTER Series and FINISHER series. All 3 series are leaders when it comes to combining science & skincare, with serious results without the hefty price-tag.

I’ve been quite fortunate to experience quite a few products from Hylamide, and wanted to share my honest thoughts on a few of my favourites.

High-Efficiency Face Cleaner - CORE SERIES

According to their website: A highly-efficient, crystal-clear micro-emulsion brings together oils, esters and water-compatible cleaners into one advanced formula that works like an oil cleaner but acts like a water-based one and rinses off effectively.”

  • I’ve never been a fan of oil cleansers, and though this may appear like one at first it’s nothing like I’ve ever experienced. It feels like you’re rubbing a smooth but strong water into your face, that magically melts away your makeup and removes any traces of dirt.

  • After you wash it off (only water is required no mitt) your skin is left feeling super clean. No residue is left, and there is no feeling of tightness or stickiness.

  • A little goes a long way with this cleanser, and I always prefer putting it on with no water to a dry face. It’s recommended when you want to use it for makeup removal that you apply to a dry face, and if there is no makeup you apply to a wet face.

  • Overall, I absolutely love this cleanser and use it daily. The only downfall (if it is one) is it’s got quite a strong smell, but you know those are just the brilliant ingredients all working together to produce a magnificently clean face.

Hydra-Density Mist - CORE SERIES

According to their website: “With marine saccharides, Australian pepperberry, tea polyphenols and rose for multi-depth water density. Advanced treatment to support dermal water density for intense lightweight hydration and comfort.”

  • This comes out as a lightweight, even spray that helps to soothe and tone my skin. I’m extremely proactive to hormonal breakouts, and I’ve found that after using this spray for a few weeks it’s become less red and my breakouts have become less frequent.

  • It leaves your skin feeling plumped, like you’ve just had a fresh facial and now your skin is prepared for makeup or just to look beautiful!

  • If I forget to use this spray before I put on my serums/primer/makeup, I find that my makeup actually doesn’t last as long. It keeps my skin hydrated enough that my makeup tends to sink into my skin further, keeping it looking fresh and dewy.

  • Overall, this spray is a great little investment (and super affordable) that you won’t be able to stop using once you’ve incorporated it into your skin routine.

Pore Control - BOOSTER SERIES

According to their website: “A fast acting, multi-functional serum to reduce the looks of pores (number and surface), shine, congestion and dermal impurity.”

  • Ever heard of a serum using bitter mushroom concentrate? Me either, but if this is what just the concentrate of a very bitter mushroom does, then I want the whole mushroom to rub into my face as a mask!

  • I have serious pore problems when it comes to my nose, and nothing really helps. I’ve tried strips and masks, but none have come close to shutting down my pore city.

  • This serum has definitely made an impact on my pores. Whilst they haven’t disappeared altogether, they’re definitely smaller and less noticeable.

  • I’ve been using it for a month and I’m excited to take an update photo at the 3 month mark - hopefully it would have made even more of an impact by then!

Photography Foundation (transparent) - FINISHER SERIES

According to their website: “Next generation ‘transparent’ foundation is designed to specifically to make the skin look better for the camera lens while blurring away imperfections in real life.”

  • The technology in these photography foundations is next level. They use ‘prismatic camera hue yellow-red correctors’ to black out any unwanted tones in real life, which helps to create the look of angular shadows for more definition on camera.

  • I often suffer from redness between my eyebrows and nose, and this really helps to eliminate those deep red tones thanks to the technology used. When I mix this with my moisturiser, it literally looks like my skin is airbrushed before I even add foundation.

  • People have called it ‘photoshop in a bottle’, and I’d have to agree. My number one tip would be blend, blend and blend some more.

WARNING: Once you begin to incorporate this into your makeup routine, you’ll never be able to stop using it!

HA Blur - FINISHER SERIES

According to their website: “Instead of relying on older silica technologies, HA Blur uses an unusual new form of Hyaluronic Acid powder base for its blurring approach. Hyaluronic Acid has never been used for this purpose before and renders HA Blue compatible with all makeup and all skin types, while the blurring effect is exceptional. In fact, it’s so compatible with makeup that you can apply under or over foundation, or mix it in with any liquid foundation for an ultra-high definition skin finish.

  • THEY TELL THE TRUTH. There really is nothing that uses hyaluronic acid in this way that is on the market.

  • I use it as a primer normally, just before I apply my foundation (though I feel like I don’t need to when I wear this product).

  • It’s so incredibly powerful that on the days that I just CBF wearing makeup, I wear this and feel like I look like I’m wearing makeup - if that makes sense.

  • I also mix it in with my foundation instead of using it as a primer sometimes, as it means I only have to use half the foundation but it goes twice as far when mixed.

  • Overall, this is another product that I’ve quickly fallen in love with and can’t imagine not using it.

Have you been lucky enough to try anything from the Hylamide range, or even any brands under the Deciem umbrella range? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
