Pearls of Wisdom from Kate Zourkas.
It's quite possible that Kate Zourkas truly is someone that has 'done it all'. A mother, yoga teacher and management consultant, Kate has defied the usual career path and provided a heck of a lot of inspiration for those of us who are uncertain about our careers. It was an absolute pleasure to chat with Kate, and we hope you all love her as much as we do!
Thanks for interviewing with us. We'd love to know more about you, your background and way of life.
Hello, I am Kate. I am a wife, mother, author, yoga teacher, mindfulness advocate and management consultant. I have a background in the corporate world, where I have been a HR professional for the last 15 years. In 2012, I decided to became a yoga teacher which transformed my life.
I continued to work in the corporate environment and set up Yoga Bella to teach private and corporate yoga classes on the side. This has gradually grown into a passion for wellbeing at work and I speak and write about this topic regularly. In 2013, my husband and I, together with my sister in law (Theodora) were faced with a major financial challenge as a result of a disrupted joint venture and we were suddenly liable for a lot of debt that wasn’t our own. We worked hard and sacrificed a lot and successfully overcame this obstacle. It was on reflection that my sister in law and I decided there were 4 key steps to our success and decided to co-author a book called ‘Finding Your Inner Resilience’ to share our learnings with others.
In addition, Theodora and I set up Zourkas Group and became directors of the company. We created Zourkas Group with one vision in mind – To empower people anywhere in the world to be the best version of themselves. We aim to achieve this by delivering impactful and meaningful personal development solutions to people anywhere in the world, through workshops, publications, presentations and audio, both face to face and through digital media. Our story is about how we decided to turn lemons into lemonade. A lot of people face unexpected change or obstacles in their life and we want to help and inspire others to build resilience and thrive through life’s challenges. We are at the beginning of our journey but looking forward to the road ahead!

Where do you find inspiration for your goals & dreams?
After becoming a yoga teacher I have found inspiration through my own personal challenges and stories, i have learnt to look inward and follow my intuition. I also find inspiration in other peoples stories, I love seeing ordinary people doing extraordinary things and succeeding through adversity. I also love seeing people grow and develop through their experiences and ultimately become the heroes of their own lives.
What does self love mean to you?
Self love means ‘being kind to yourself’. This can look different to different people but give yourself permission to be kind to yourself first. Whether you are a parent, professional or entrepreneur you can’t help or benefit others unless you start with yourself. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I was born in Maitland near Newcastle NSW.
What is your favourite quote, and why?
"When you want something with all of your heart, the universe conspires in helping you achieve it”. - The Alchemist
The book, 'The Alchemist' is one of the books that has had the biggest impact on my life. I always read it when I am going through a major phase in my life as I will always take something more away from the book. I love this quote as it is important to focus on what you want in life and watch the magic happen- energy flows where attention goes!
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t be so scared to be different from everyone else. Celebrate your uniqueness as it is the key to your success. Also, don’t rush to do everything at once, you have plenty of time to achieve everything you want, sometimes things are up to divine timing!
What's on the horizon for your future? Are any exciting plans coming up?
I have just co-authored my first book “Finding Your Inner Resilience” and am due to have baby number 2 in a few weeks! So 2017 is all about babies and books for me. My co-author and I are currently scheduling book events and workshops for the second half of 2017 and planning a resilience forum.
Dogs or cats?
I like both! I have had cats before but think I would go for a dog next time.
What is your go-to song to get you feeling motivated?
Just the way you are - Bruno Mars
